I just read a warning tale about a guy who’s been married for 10 years.

He and his wife have a 3-year-old kid and 12-month-old twins.

Raising the kids has been very demanding, so they hired a mother’s helper for 4 to 5 hours a day while the wife practices self-care — things like going for manicures and pedicures and shopping.

The thing is, even with this extra help, the wife started becoming very distant from the guy.

A few months ago, she said her body was crushing her self-esteem, so she got a $15k “mommy makeover,” including a boob job and a tummy tuck.

The recovery was very tough, and the makeover didn’t seem to improve things between the husband and wife.

And then, a couple of weeks ago, she announced she is asexual.

She doesn’t experience sexual attraction any more, she said. 

And she wants the husband to love her for who she is while she works through her sexuality.

Now, you might think your wife is completely unreasonable. Or maybe that she’s checked out mentally from the marriage. Or maybe even that she’s cheating.

Any of which might be true.

But I’m sure it’s not the whole story.

I don’t want to sound like I’m blaming the guy. It doesn’t sound that he’s done anything “wrong.”

But there’s a good chance he could have done some things differently over all those years — which would have kept his wife from going down this sad path.

Bringing back the sexual spark

Keeping a sexual spark going after a decade and a couple of kids requires active effort.

And no, I don’t mean washing the dishes.

I don’t mean paying for fancy dinners or exotic getaways.

And I certainly don’t mean indulging your woman’s every whim.

In many cases, the sexual spark can be rekindled even if it goes out.

But it certainly won’t happen if you just sit and wait and hope for it to happen on its own.
